On-call firefighters are highly trained, dedicated professionals who are ready to respond when their community needs them most. They’re not based at the fire station full-time but when the call comes, they drop everything to protect lives, homes, and businesses.
Whether you’re working a 9-to-5, running your own business, studying, or managing a household, you can still play a vital role in Suffolk Fire and Rescue Service. On-call firefighters come from all walks of life, united by a shared commitment to serve.
During your agreed availability, you’ll be on standby to respond to emergencies from your local fire station. That could mean tackling fires, attending road traffic collisions, rescuing people and animals, or supporting your community during floods and other incidents.

Join our virtual information evening to learn more about what it means to be an on-call Firefighter with Suffolk Fire and Rescue Service.
