Supporting the service

Suffolk Fire and Rescue couldn’t operate the way we do without the continued support from the members of the community we serve, the firefighters charity and all of the employers who agree to release On-call Firefighters to attend incidents while they are at work.

The Firefighters Charity offers support to fire service personnel including:

  • Fire services personnel (wholetime, retained, on-call, uniformed, control or support)
  • Former fire personnel with five years’ service (or two if you were made redundant)
  • Medically retired fire personnel (no qualifying length of service required)
  • Works firefighters and former works firefighters with five years’ service
  • Ministry of Defence firefighters and former MoD firefighters with five years’ service
  • Those who manage or assist a Fire Services Youth Scheme
  • Fire services chaplains or faith leaders
  • Eligible dependants of any of the above
  • Fire services volunteers

*(qualifying criteria may apply)

The huge range of support includes a crisis line, physical and mental health support, social well being and support in retirement as well as self assessment tools.

The work they do is invaluable in maintaining the wellbeing of our personnel as well as helping those injured to get back to work and continue the job they love.

Employers

The support we have from employers is essential to keeping our fire engines available, especially during the day. These employers agree to release their staff to attend incidents while at work, without their support the number of available fire engines would be significantly reduced. Their ongoing commitment to helping the community is invaluable to both the service and the community in Suffolk, this comes at no small cost to themselves which makes them a key part of our team.

Below are just some of the employers who currently release their employees. If you are an employer who can help support us please get in touch by emailing sfrs.recruitment@suffolk.gov.uk

. . . .

We apologise if we have missed anyone, this page is still under construction, if you are an employer who releases firefighters or are a firefighter being released please email a copy of your logo to sfrs.recruitment@suffolk.gov.uk and we will add it above.

The community in Suffolk

The support from the community in Suffolk and the surrounding areas is key to enabling the service to operate how we do. Without the support from the local residents in accommodating safety visits, educational talks, invites to community events and the ongoing vigilance in reporting incidents the service wouldn’t be able to have the impact that we do.
